Why Our Pub is Great
The Mitre in Oxford is one of those historic pubs you fall in love with the moment you come in. A big favourite with locals, students, and tourists, our pub is a place for all kinds of people. Families eat lunch together. Couples share dinner and wine on date nights. Professionals do business in the meeting area over fresh coffee, and then pop in for a swift pint after work. And friends catch up over craft beers, ciders, wines, and spirits. We’re that pub: the one with the staff who know their beer and always chat to the customers.
Like all of the best historic pubs in Oxford, it’s not just the food, drink and people that make us so special. Our building has fascinating old nooks, crannies and unique features, like the Lincoln College coat of arms. Find a spot and get comfy. We might date back to the 13th Century in some areas, but we’ve got the modern features you’d expect to find in a city centre pub. Like wheelchair access, WiFi, air conditioning, and a pub function room for up to 80 people.
There’s pub grub. And there’s really good pub grub. Eat with us and enjoy unfussy food made with quality ingredients that taste great. Nothing hits the spot quite like a big, juicy chargrilled steak. The tenderness of the meat and the slight smokiness of the grill is something special. And when you team it with a cask ale or craft beer, it’s magic. Grills are our big thing but we love the classics, too. So you’ll always find fish and chips on the menu, along with big burgers, chicken dishes, curries, and a few international flavours for good measure.

All of our ingredients are responsibly sourced, from the cod and haddock we use in our Marston’s Pedigree-battered fish ‘n’ chips to the langoustine tails in our Whitby scampi. Or the 100% fillet fish fingers on our children’s menu.
